Frederick Soup Kitchen
On the third Sunday of every other month, a team from Glade UCC prepares and serves dinner in downtown Frederick.

Glade Valley Community Services
Food Bank donations are collected weekly at Glade, and volunteers are always needed for the Food Bank, Thrift Shop, and Holiday Toy Shoppe.

SOWAC – Summer Outreach of Walkersville-Area Churches
SOWAC is a group of Walkersville churches and community members who team up to provide neighborhood children with a free healthy lunch, activities, and a fun, safe place to hang out during the summer.


Consistory – The executive body of the church, responsible for policy-making and transacting the business of the church. Members hold a three-year term and are nominated by a committee appointed by the Consistory. Meets monthly.

Care-Giving – Provides visits and support to church members who are not able to attend church services. Meets every other month.

Christian Education – Assists the pastor with scheduling educational events for the year and plans and implements adult and youth study groups, confirmation classes, and Lenten workshops. Provides assistance to church school teachers.

Church and Ministry – Serves as liaison between congregation and the pastor. Makes pastor aware of concerns within the congregation and offers support to pastor.

Guild – Provides support for fall and spring church dinners, one of the largest fundraisers for the church. Volunteers help set up, prepare, and serve food for these dinners, and also assist with meals/receptions for funerals and other life celebrations.

Mission and Outreach – Develops and coordinates outreach and hands-on mission projects. Promotes monthly Second Mile Giving offerings. Meets monthly.

Music – The Senior Choir and Hand Bell Choir are the two primary music groups within the life of the church. Both meet weekly for practice and participate in weekly worship services.

Office Volunteers – Assist the church secretary with mostly clerical tasks such as preparing the weekly bulletin, monthly newsletter, other mailings, and special projects.

Open & Affirming (ONA) – This ad hoc committee was formed to help the congregation discern its readiness to publicly affirm and celebrate acceptance of the LGBT community. The team has coordinated various educational opportunities and time for sacred conversations about this important topic.

Prayer Shawl – An extension of the Care-Giving Committee. Crafters use their talents to make shawls, lap robes, scarves, etc. as an expression of the congregation’s care and concern to people who are hurting or experiencing grief.

Property – Deals with the needs of the church building and property. Meets quarterly to plan “work days” and address issues related to the physical structure.

Social Media – Explores and implements new technologies for the church’s media and marketing needs. Meets as needed.

Worship – Facilitates and suggests ways to make the worship experience meaningful to congregation. Works cooperatively with pastor and music staff to plan special services throughout the year. Meets monthly.

Youth Group – Volunteers help with activities and snacks. Meets twice a month during the school year for youth in grades 1 through 12.
