Mission & Social Action Ministry
Glade UCC has an active mission and social action program. Through our giving in worship services we support several local non-profit organizations through our monthly Second Mile giving program. We participate in many of the programs of our local Glade Valley Community Services including the Food Bank, Thrift Shop, Holiday Toy Shoppe, and School Supplies Collection.
The Mission and Social Action Committee coordinates outreach and “hands-on” mission projects locally, regionally, and internationally. We regularly serve at the Frederick Soup Kitchen, support refugee education in Lebanon and just recently sent a group from Glade to help refurbish the Tamarack Arts and Crafts Center in Beckley, WV. We also administer the Arie Winebrenner Fund for foreign missions.
Glade UCC is blessed to have a strong musical life that enriches our worship each week. Music is so vital to the worship life of the church as music unites us in active participation, with other congregations around the globe.
We have a wonderful Senior Choir and Handbell Choir. In addition to providing the music each week, they also participate in local community programs. They perform hymn sings throughout the year and provide a beautiful program during our Christmas Eve service. Our very talented Dr. William Powell, III, directs the choirs.
We are always in need of more voices in our Senior Choir and we would love to welcome anyone who would like to join us. If you are interested in ringing handbells, we would love to train you! Please use our contact form to let Bill Powell know you are interested in sharing or cultivating your musical talents.
Our Christian Education program includes Sunday School for children from nursery class through high school. We also have bible study classes throughout the year. Sunday School sessions begin in September and run through June each year. Sunday School begins at 9:15 a.m. Due to COVID we are currently NOT having Sunday School, we are hoping to resume in the Fall of 2022.
We currently have an unstaffed nursery available for your use should you need to step away with the children during worship.
